Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Trophy in 882 Days
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's maiden title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from that period of the previous year.
Victory also signifies the Russian has won 21 championships at 21 various tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my children together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said ranked player Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.
His retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on court had caused commentators to question if his capacity to compete at the elite level was finished.
However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced service.
Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, winning four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.
Both players swapped break points in the second set before Moutet, striving for his first tour title, gained dominance to force a third set.
He defended four early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
